FAQs

If you’ve not worked with an interior designer before, you probably have a few questions. Here are the answers to those that often get asked. If you want to ask something else, just drop us a line.

Why do I need an interior designer?

People choose to work with an interior designer for a number of reasons. Obviously one of the biggest drivers is to seek creative input. Working with an interior designer brings new ideas and perspective to the design of a space. We will work with you to help work out how to get the best out of a space, both practically and in terms of design impact.

Beyond the design itself, one of the biggest benefits of working with an interior designer is time saving. It’s easy to spend a huge amount of time researching and trying to decide on everything required to furnish and decorate your space - from flooring, to furniture and light fittings. An interior designer does that work for you, using knowledge and experience to be able to present you with the right options. When working on a whole house renovation, the amount of decisions to make and items to source can be overwhelming and time consuming, but we provide a fast track to the decisions you need to make.

Working with an interior designer is a partnership, and one which can also save you money. A well thought out and carefully planned design, underpinned by an agreed design direction, avoids costly mistakes from design decisions you come to regret.

Our role is to partner with you to create something special. In doing that we help you understand what you want and what is going to optimise your space, bring fresh perspective and ideas, lessen the burden of decision making and bring impactful design together to a clear budget and timeline.

How do interior designers work?

We work in partnership with you, and our role can be as much or as little as you’d like. We can shape the brief, put together the plans and see them through to completion, or work with you at certain stages of this journey or even on an hourly basis.

Do I need an architect and an interior designer?

In short, it depends on what you’re looking to do. We can advise on the best use of space, and look at the optimum placement of architectural features like doors and windows. If building work is taking place, you will want to seek expert advice which may include an architect depending on the scale of the project.

We’ll often work alongside architects. If, for example, you’re remodelling your space or having an extension, the architect will draw up the plans which we’ll then review and work up the interior design plans from. This is a key point where an interior designer will add value, looking at key decisions of elements such as where to place lighting fixtures or plug sockets to ensure the space is well planned from the outset, and you don’t end up without being able to put a lamp where you need to.

What is remote interior design / online interior design?

Remote or online interior design is an affordable and efficient way to provide the foundation of a design for your space or spaces. By working remotely and keeping the deliverables clear, we can provide you with a toolkit to implement design yourself.

The cost is more affordable as it doesn’t include ongoing consultancy or visits to your home or project site. See our services page for more information.

How much do you charge for interior design work?

Our consultancy and work on larger scale projects is priced according to the scope of the project. We are flexible in how we work - we may work with you on an hourly / day rate basis to provide ongoing support, or propose a fixed fee for design work. The initial consultation is free of charge, and following that we’ll provide you with a fee proposal for consideration. If you think you’d benefit from working with an interior designer, the best thing to do is get in touch and have a conversation to see what’s possible.
